Changing the PIN of your Identity Card
You can change your personal PIN of the identity card using the AusweisApp2, which you can download for free.
The App also allows to reactivate the online function (using your PUK), in case it was blocked entering an incorrect PIN for 3 times.
If you can no longer find your PUK or if you want to activate the online function for the first time, you can do so visiting in person the German diplomatic mission responsible for you.
Applications by mail or with a power of attorney are not accepted. Please bring your identity card with you to the appointment.
The changes are free of charge and carried out immediately during your visit. You can book an appointment via our booking system under the category Biometric Passport / Temporary Passport / Identity Card.
Further information about the online function or changing a PIN can be found on the Identity Card Portal Personalausweisportal.
